How to Stay Sane During Quarantine

It was a year ago when our worlds were flipped upside down because of Covid-19. Even a year later, self quarantine is still an essential part of slowing the spread. After having close contact with someone who is infected with Covid-19, it is necessary to self isolate until you have been cleared. If a worst case scenario occurs and you have been infected with Covid-19, quarantine is a necessity.

So how do you keep yourself sane?

Take care of your health

Whether you're in self quarantine because you had contact with someone or because you have a confirmed case, the most important thing is to stay healthy. If you are having Covid-19 symptoms, then focus on what you can do to ease those symptoms.

It hits everyone differently, so keep a log on how it is affecting you. Take it easy on your body, such as by relaxing and putting on your favorite Netflix show, so that you can recover.

Be grateful

We discussed this concept of being grateful in a previous post. It is still relevant in this case. If you have a comfortable living space to be quarantined in, then be grateful for that. Try to look around at all the amazing blessings you have. Keep in touch with your loved ones and be grateful for their support, even if it’s through a screen.

Physically distance not social distance

Just because you are locking yourself away until you are cleared doesn’t mean you’re shutting out the world. The amount of technology we have at our fingertips allows us to connect with people constantly.

Yes, Facetime calls are not as good as in person interactions, but they are vital to our mental and physical health. Use this time to call friends and family that you haven’t spoken to in a while.

Finally read that book, or five!

Maybe you’ve had a book sitting on your bookshelf that you kept telling yourself you would read. Now is the time to read that book or maybe others you’ve meant to read. If you’re unsure of what to read, then check out the New York Times bestseller list or even the 100 books to read before you die list.

Work on your space

Whether you’re locked away in your bedroom or have an entire apartment to yourself, there are probably adjustments you can make to that space. This is of course assuming that you’re healthy and strong enough to. You can even check out Netflix for inspiration by watching Tidying Up and Hoarders. You can finally organize and clean your living space. This is your opportunity to make the changes you’ve always wanted to.

Keep your sleep balanced

It might be tempting to just sleep all day, but this can lead to a lot of negative impacts on your mental and physical health. You should get a healthy amount of sleep, but you still need to be active.

Get creative

Use this time to work on that hobby or craft that you have. Whether that means scrapbooking, painting, knitting, or 3D printing, just do something that helps you create something. The end goal will give you a sense of accomplishment.
