Why You Need a Morning Clarity Walk

How many times do you hit snooze? If it’s once, that’s too many. Recent studies are showing that the snooze button is a liar. You’re not getting more rest by hitting it. In fact you’re getting less. So here’s a suggestion you probably don’t want to hear. Rather than sleeping that extra 20 minutes, use that time for a 15 minute walk that can change everything.

I know, I know. If it’s hard enough to get out of bed already, how are you going to do it for a walk? If you’re anything like me, the walk from bed to the bathroom sink is a staggering zombie shuffle. However, that 15 minute walk first thing in the morning can be the difference between a productive day and a groggy mess of a day. It’s also good for your health, both physically and mentally.

Do note: it doesn’t have to be the literal first thing.

Clean Buddies CEO and founder, Judy, does a 15 minute walk every morning. Not only is this great for getting closer to her 10,000 step goal for the day, it helps with sharpening her focus for the day to tackle all the challenges that come her way.

The other day we talked about N.E.A.T. Too many of us are not moving enough throughout our day, but if you start off the day with this short walk, you are already setting up for a NEAT kind of day. This walk can be done on a treadmill, but if you can get outdoors and do it, studies show that it can make a world of difference.

The ways it helps:

Energizes you for the day

That snooze button is seriously not helping your energy level. Do you really feel less tired because you snoozed for an extra twenty minutes? Probably not. You’re probably still slugging your way across the floor to the coffee machine, or holding out hope that the line in the Starbucks drive-thru is short. But it’s not.

Besides, a short 15 minute walk can be more energizing than a cup of coffee. I can hear your eyes rolling, but hear me out. Or read this study on it. Simplified, the walk gets your whole body awake, which allows for more oxygen and blood to reach your brain. Snoozing and coffee don’t do this.

Makes you a better person

Hey, we all get cranky sometimes, but this morning walk can really shake the moodiness from you. This makes you a much more pleasant person to be around. Also, mood is contagious. Your good mood will spread to the people around you, which makes you more appealing to be around. That should be reason enough!

Because it’s the NEAT thing to do

You don’t need to go to the gym or run five miles every day to be healthy. You just need to not be a slug. This morning walk will get your body burning calories and building up your energy stores. This is the way to have a healthier and longer life.

There are many more benefits for taking this morning walk, so why don’t you try it tomorrow and see how you will benefit?

Sure, the first day you’re going to be grumbling about it, but after a while you will be like the CEO and founder of Clean Buddies, taking on the day and all its challenges.
